Early Literacy In The Formative Years

Literacy development starts early in life and is highly correlated with school achievement. For this reason I offer the children in my care as many experiences with language and literacy as possible. The more children are exposed to literacy and language through reading books, singing songs and reciting poems the more likely they will be successful in learning to read and school success. A great part of my child care program is the respect and support that we have for the diversity of children's families, cultures, and language. I meld my passion for early literacy with diversity by incorporating a wide variety of books and stories which depict characters of different family, cultures, traditions, languages and backgrounds.
