What is Family Child Care?

Family child care is when child care services are provided in the child care provider's own home. In Family child care the children are in a mixed age group with a low adult to child ratio.

At my daycare I cater to children from ages 6 weeks to 5 years and have an adult/child ratio of 1 adult to every 8 children. Family Child Care can give more flexibility when compared to Center based child care.  Some family child care homes, like mine, may even offer occasional evening and weekend child care for currently enrolled clients.  The cost of care in family child care is also lower on average than that of a child care center and nanny options.

Licensed family child care homes like my own are governed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division. This means we must follow all of the licensing regulations for Family Child Care in Title 22 for Family Child Care. These regulations cover a variety of safety concerns like criminal record checks for child care providers, fire safety, inspections, staff requirements, mandated reporting requirements, child capacity and ratios, immunizations, admission procedures, children's records, personal rights and more.

The health, well being and safety of the children in my care is my number one priority and I have many health, safety and security measures in place which go above and beyond the licensing requirements. Everything about my daycare is carefully and purposefully planned.
